The downside is that you have no direct control over whether your affilates promote you or not.  However if you work with your affiliates and provide them with incentives and quality data feeds you are more likely to get them to promote your products over other companies.  You then pay them an agreed commission for orders that they generate.

They also provide the option of providing contextual advertisements, although these are based on keywords you supply rather than derived from the context of each web page.
